光學項目

光學項目由Barrett Lyon於 2003 年創建^[1]，旨在使用視覺圖形生成互聯網廣度的準確表示。^[2]^[3] Barrett Lyon相信他的網絡地圖可以幫助學生更多地了解互聯網，同時也可以作為衡量互聯網整體增長和增長發生的特定領域的指標。 ^[2]這不是第一個這樣的項目；其他人早於它，例如貝爾實驗室互聯網地圖項目。

Barrett Lyon一直使用Traceroute生成圖像映射，後來切換到使用BGP路由進行映射。生成的圖像發布在光學項目網站上。 2021 年，里昂使用他的製圖技術製作了不同的視頻動畫：揭示了 1997 年至 2021 年互聯網的增長、2019 年伊朗互聯網關閉、美國國防部在互聯網上的地位以及為數不多的切入點進入中國互聯網。

該項目引起了全世界的關注，被《時代》雜誌^[4]、康奈爾大學^[5]、新科學家^[6]、和卡巴斯基實驗室^[7]報道。此外，光學項目地圖已經在至少兩個藝術畫廊和展覽中找到了家，例如現代藝術博物館^[8]和科學博物館的「繪製我們周圍的世界」永久展覽。 ^[9]

Opte圖像根據知識共享許可獲得許可^[10]，雖然所有非商業應用程序都可以免費使用Opte 圖像，但所有其他應用程序都需要許可費。 ^[1]^[11]^[12]
