Linux Lite是一個基於Debian和Ubuntu開發的Linux發行版（即操作系統）。[5] 其配有經過修改的、輕量級的Xfce桌面環境，並包含一組以Lite命名的自有應用程序，對新手用戶較為友好。

Linux Lite目的之一是起到「中繼」的作用：幫助用戶平滑地從Windows遷移到Linux操作系統。其在選擇軟件和編程中遵循這樣的Unix理念：「一個程序做一件事並做好。」[6]。

Linux Lite基於Ubuntu LTS系列版本。[7] LTS代表長期支援，這意味着每個版本都有5年的支持期，即：每5年只需要進行一次重大的更新。在此期間，操作系統將不斷收到各類小更新。

Linux Lite起始於2013年發布的Linux Lite 1.0.0（代號為「紫水晶」，[10] 基於 Ubuntu）。它最初關注於將Windows用戶吸引到基於Linux的操作系統，這是為了消解Linux難以使用這一固有觀念。

版本號[編輯]

Linux Lite初始階段的版本號分為三段，例如1.0.0。其中，第一個數字代表Ubuntu中的基礎代碼，即「1」指Ubuntu 12.04 LTS這一基礎系統。第二個數字代表在其間的版本，即「0」指Ubuntu LTS 12.04.1版。第三個數字（「0」）代表此後的任意微小版本。對於2.x版本系列,[11]最後數字暨微小版本號已不需要。
