史密斯堡的氣候類型屬於典型的亞寒帶針葉林氣候，根據柯本氣候分類法歸類為Dfc型，氣候特徵為夏季溫暖短暫，而冬季嚴寒漫長。2021年6月30日，由於受到超級熱浪的影響，史密斯堡記錄了39.9 °C（103.8 °F）的高溫，這是整個西北地方有史以來紀錄的最高氣溫紀錄[1]；而極端最低氣溫是1917年12月26日的−57.2 °C（−71.0 °F）[2]；這是西北地方有史以來紀錄的最冷和最熱的溫度[3]。
